Report from Academic Senate  9/9/25

The Senate met Tuesday afternoon, first meeting of the semester.  Not much of relevance to PFA.  We will be having discussions about equivalency at the high schools again.  There was some question about using the FPA evaluation forms for the high school instructors, especially since they are not AHC employees and not members of our bargaining unit.   There was some grumbling about are these teachers actually qualified to teach college level courses.

Fred Patrick noted that there were vacancies on a number of Senate committees.  He was uncertain if PFA folk could serve on any/all of them.  Bob Curry forwarded the list of committees to Monique.  If there are slots available to us, I would encourage us to get members to fill these slots.

It was noted that a number of faculty were going up for emeritus status, and there was a discussion of the benefits they would keep upon retirement.  Someone asked if they would be able to maintain office space.  Monique noted, I’m proud to say, that part timers don’t have office space, and that ended the discussion relatively quickly.

Bookstore Advisory Group 9/10/25

We had the first meeting of the semester Wednesday afternoon.  Nothing of real importance to PFA, but they do have some new merchandise in the store for sale.  They are going to try to do something at the Lompoc Center so students can purchase pens, bluebooks, etc. since there is no bookstore there anymore.

Student Learning Council 9/10/25

We had the first meeting of the semester Wednesday afternoon.  A lot of going over the goals of the Council, since there are a number of new members.  We will be meeting with Student Services Council next week, 9/17/25, to discuss Board policies that need to be updated/reviewed this year.  No real business, which should start in earnest at our 9/24/25 meeting.
