Joan Bergstrom-Smith, our representative for Student Services Council from the August 20 meeting
Hello,
We discussed goals for the year. Primary focuses include KPI updates and First Year Experience.
There was an expression that the council would like us to be more active about sending out updates and seeking feedback from constituents. This needs to be done in a timely manner so that feedback can be applied as things move through the process. Particularly Board Policies (BP) and Administrative Procedures (AP). These need to go through Student Services Council, then to College Council, then to Academic Senate. (There are other BP’s that go through other councils with similar processes/issues.) They would like feedback before the next council meeting (two weeks). So, I will be sending out emails and asking faculty to respond so I can forward that information.
If you want to get involved with the First Year Experience team, email Yvonne Teniente. They meet every Tuesday at 11 in the skyroom meeting room in building A.
- Complete transfer level English and Math in the first year
- complete your CSEP (Comprehensive Student Education Plan).
- Persist semester to semester
- Engage with peer mentors, faculty, and campus resources
KPI updates
Student Services Council is focused on three of them. Which are:
- Complete transfer level English and Math in the first year
- CSEP in the first year
- Complete more units (get closer to completion)
Dual Enrollment and Catalog Rights
There was discussion of dual enrollment for HS students, their “catalog right” starts when first enrolled (HS freshman!). But UC/CSU doesn’t like this. They want catalog rights to start after High School graduation. We need our catalog to give them the correct information. Honestly, I didn’t understand all of the nuances of this discussion. Attached is a memo with more information.
